Warm welkom
Vanaf de aankomst op het station wordt je al goed ontvangen. Er zijn kerstversieringen met zowel kleurtjes als lichtjes. Daarnaast wordt er al heel duidelijk aangegeven welke kant je op moet lopen. De weg van de kerstroute ook leuk versierd met allemaal bogen. Ook is er een plattegrond te vinden over wat je waar allemaal kan vinden.
Feestelijk versierd
De hele stad staan vol met versieringen. Er zijn bogen, kransen, beelden en lichtjes. De stad staat bekend om de unieke kerstgrotten, waar ze er twee van hebben. Dat maakt dit de stad met de grootste kerstgrotten. Naast de kerstgrotten kun je hier ook een kerstmarkt buiten vinden.
Allerlei lekkernijen
Een goede kerstmarkt is in mijn ogen niets zonder goed eten. Er staan allerlei kraampjes om eten te kopen om mee naar huis te nemen. Daarvoor is onder andere droge worst en hakhoning te vinden. Hakhoning is natuurlijk snoep dat sinds de Middeleeuwen gebruikt wordt tegen allerlei klachten. Ook is er eten te vinden die je op locatie eet, zoals wafels. Er worden ook alcoholische drank verkocht, voor de kerstdagen. Ik heb de truffel met marc de champagne geprobeerd.
Fluwelengrot
Overal in de grot staan versierde kerstbomen. Her en der zijn hoekjes gemaakt met poppen om het sfeervol te maken. De route wordt aangegeven met bordjes, maar het is een looppad met eenrichtingsverkeer. Tijdens de route kom je langs hele oude grottekeningen. De spullen die verkocht worden variëren van typisch kerstachtige dingen tot zelfgemaakte decoraties.
Gemeentegrot
In deze grot zie je als decoratie grote opgezette versiering die verlicht zijn. Er zijn Kerstmannen, cadeaus, dieren en kerstbomen te vinden. Ook zijn er leuke dingen te vinden, zoals een kerstwens maken en fotolocaties. In totaal zijn er 500 kerstbomen te vinden met in totaal 12 kilometer aan lampjes. De kerstmarkt is 2 kilometer lang.
Kraampjes buiten
Naast de grotten hebben ze ook een gewone kerstmarkt buiten. Daar kun je allerlei soorten kraampjes vinden. Ik heb kraampjes gezien die kleding verkopen en ook eten. Ook is er livemuziek, dus het is gezellig hier wat langer rond te hangen.
Geschiedenis
In de grotten zie je oude wandtekeningen. Ook zijn er teksten opgehangen over de geschiedenis. Je kan ook vitrines vinden met objecten die je kan bekijken. Op het einde van de Gemeentegrot is er ook een documentaire te zien over de werkwijze tot 1950 in de grot.
Het centrum
Ik in het centrum is de kerstsfeer meegenomen. Het is ook mooi om in het donker rond te lopen. Er is versiering opgehangen, straten zijn mooi verlicht. De winkels zijn open, dus daar kan je ook rondkijken. Bij het station werd in de avond gezongen door het mannenkoor KKM, die al meer dan 150 jaar bestaat.
Conclusie
Ik zou deze kerstmarkt zeker aanraden. Het is in de hele stad groot opgezet. Je krijgt overal een echt kerstgevoel. Ook is de locatie uniek vanwege de kerstgrotten. Hierdoor is de kerstmarkt echt totaal anders dan hoe je ze normaal ziet. Zelf ben ik geslaagd om leuke decoraties te kopen en heb ik hakhoning gekocht.

A warm welcome
From the moment you arrive at the station, you'll receive a warm welcome. There are Christmas decorations with both colorful and festive lights. Furthermore, it's clearly indicated which way to go. The Christmas route is also beautifully decorated with arches. There's also a map available showing what you can find where.
Festive decorations
The entire city is filled with decorations. There are arches, wreaths, statues, and lights. The city is known for its unique Christmas grottoes, of which they have two. This makes it the city with the largest Christmas grottoes. Besides the grottoes, you can also find an outdoor Christmas market here.
All sorts of treats
In my opinion, a good Christmas market is nothing without good food. There are all sorts of stalls selling food to take home. You can find dried sausage and chopped honey, among other things. Chopped honey is, of course, a candy that has been used since the Middle Ages to treat all sorts of ailments. You can also find food to eat on-site, such as waffles. Alcoholic drinks are also sold for the Christmas season. I tried the truffle with Marc de Champagne.
Fluweelengrot (Velvet Cave)
Decorated Christmas trees are scattered throughout the cave. Here and there, corners are made with dolls to create a cozy atmosphere. The route is marked with signs, but it's a one-way walkway. Along the way, you'll pass very old cave paintings. The items for sale range from typical Christmas items to homemade decorations.
Gemeentegrot (Municipal Cave)
In this cave, you'll see large, illuminated, stuffed ornaments. There are Santa Clauses, gifts, animals, and Christmas trees. There are also fun things to do, such as making a Christmas wish and photo booths. There are a total of 500 Christmas trees with a total of 12 kilometers of lights. The Christmas market is 2 kilometers long.
Outdoor Stalls
Besides the caves, they also have a regular outdoor Christmas market. There you can find all kinds of stalls. I saw stalls selling clothes and food. There's also live music, so it's nice to hang out there a bit longer.
History
In the caves, you can see old wall paintings. There are also texts about the history. You can also find display cases with objects to admire. At the end of the Gemeentegrot (Municipal Cave), there's a documentary about the workings of the cave until 1950.
City Center
In the city center, the Christmas atmosphere is definitely there. It's also lovely to walk around in the dark. There are decorations, and the streets are beautifully lit. The shops are open, so you can browse there too. In the evening, the KKM male choir, which has been around for over 150 years, sang at the station.
Conclusion
I would definitely recommend this Christmas market. It's a large-scale event throughout the city. You get a real Christmas feeling everywhere. The location is also unique because of the Christmas caves. This makes the Christmas market completely different from what you normally see. I managed to buy some nice decorations and I bought chopped honey.
