Italiaan aan de gracht
Ik ben dol op Italiaans eten. Er staan er meerdere nog op mijn lijst om te proberen. Toen ik vrienden voorstelde om naar een Italiaan te gaan, stelde een vriend van mij deze voor. Hij had hier al vaker met zijn werk gegeten en vond deze erg goed. Ze zitten aan de Oude Gracht, dus op een mooie maar minder bereikbare plek. Vooraf kregen we brood met beleg.
Voorgerecht
Ik wilde graag de Antipasto di Carne al Pozzo proberen. Dit is een manier om verschillende Italiaanse lekkernijen te proberen en is te bestellen vanaf twee personen. Uiteraard lagen er verschillende soorten worst op het bord. Ook meloen met ham, die erg lekker was. Je kon ook een combinatie van tomaat met mozzarella eten. Het werd afgemaakt met allerlei soorten (gegrilde) groenten. Onderop lag er ook nog carpaccio met een sausje. Het bord was mooi opgemaakt, helemaal vol gelegd en smaakte goed.
Hoofdgerecht
Normaal zou ik voor pasta gaan, maar dit keer wilde ik iets anders proberen bij de Italiaan. Ik koos voor de Vis Salmone, een zalmfilet uit de oven met mozzarella, zeekraal en wilde spinazie. Ik vond de zalm niet heel bijzonder, voor mij persoonlijk net iets te droog. De groente eromheen waren wel lekker. Ik zou zelf alleen niet dit bord hebben uitgekozen, het voelde nu namelijk erg leeg aan. Ik vond de prijs voor wat ik kreeg ook aan de hoge kant.
Nagerecht
Ze hebben allerlei dingen op de kaart staan die goed klinken en ik koos uiteindelijk voor de Tartufo Nero. Dit is een truffelijs met zabaione, noten en cacao. Ik vond hem erg lekker en ik had nog nooit truffelijs op. Ook hier vond ik de prijs toch weer net iets te hoog voor wat het was.
Conclusie
Het is een leuk restaurant, met echte Italianen werkzaam. Voorgerecht is absoluut aan te raden, je krijgt veel voor weinig en goede kwaliteit. Helaas was ik minder enthousiast over mijn hoofdgerecht. Daarnaast vond ik de prijzen voor wat ik kreeg vaak net te hoog. Toch zal ik hier nogmaals terug gaan, want ik ben heel benieuwd naar hun pasta. Ze hebben wel een ruime menukaart, er is dus genoeg keuze om iets passends te vinden.
Italian on the Canal
I love Italian food. I have several more on my list to try. When I suggested going to an Italian restaurant to friends, a friend of mine suggested this one. He had eaten there several times with work and really liked it. It's located on the Oude Gracht, so it's a beautiful but less accessible spot. We were given bread and toppings as a starter.
Appetizer
I wanted to try the Antipasto di Carne al Pozzo. This is a way to try different Italian delicacies and can be ordered for two or more people. Of course, there were different kinds of sausage on the plate. There was also melon with ham, which was very tasty. You could also have a combination of tomato and mozzarella. It was topped off with all kinds of (grilled) vegetables. At the bottom, there was also carpaccio with a sauce. The plate was beautifully presented, completely filled, and tasted great.
Main Course
Normally, I would go for pasta, but this time I wanted to try something different at the Italian. I chose the Vis Salmone, an oven-baked salmon fillet with mozzarella, samphire, and wild spinach. I didn't find the salmon particularly special; it was a bit too dry for me personally. The vegetables around it were tasty, though. I wouldn't have chosen this dish myself, as it felt rather empty. I also thought the price was a bit high for what I got.
Dessert
They have all sorts of good-sounding things on the menu, and I ultimately chose the Tartufo Nero. This is truffle ice cream with zabaione, nuts, and cocoa. I really enjoyed it, and I'd never had truffle ice cream before. Again, I thought the price was a bit high for what it was.
Conclusion
It's a nice restaurant, staffed by real Italians. The starter is definitely recommended; you get a lot for little money and the quality is good. Unfortunately, I wasn't as enthusiastic about my main course. I also found the prices often a bit high for what I got. Still, I will go back, as I'm very curious about their pasta. They do have an extensive menu, so there is enough choice to find something suitable.
